Shea Butter (Karité)

Natural shea butter from West Africa, preserving its maximum beneficial properties.

Why is it called "women's gold" in africa?

The harvesting and processing of shea nuts are traditionally handled by women.
Shea butter sales supports local communities and families
Every shea butter purchase helps strengthen village economies.

Shea butter, also known as karité butter, is obtained from the nuts of the Vitellaria paradoxa tree, which grows in the savannah regions of West Africa. These trees can live for up to 300 years and begin bearing fruit only after 20 years of growth. Hence, shea butter is considered a product that cannot be mass-industrialised without respecting its natural cycle. Historically, shea butter was used by African women for skin and hair care. It protected the skin against the intense sun, supported wound healing, preserved skin elasticity and maintained the natural shine of the hair.

Europe became aware of karité butter in the 18th century, and since then it has become an essential ingredient in premium cosmetics.
